 Standard Cancellation Policy:
For cancellation prior to registration deadline, a $5 processing fee will be retained by KNC.  Between registration deadline and day of program, a 25% processing fee, with a minimum of $5, will be retained by KNC.: No refunds day of event or after.

Harris Prairie is a beautifully restored agricultural field that sits just northwest of Downtown Kalamazoo, just north of the Kal-Haven Trail State Park. This is a training workshop for participants of the Michigan Butterfly Network in the Upper Peninsula. The first part of this training will introduce protocol and butterfly identification. The second part of this program will be outdoors and will practice protocol and field identification. For more information, visit michiganbutterfly.org. Join the Kalamazoo Nature Center for a butterfly field trip to Wau-Ke-Na Preserve. William Erby Smith's bequest of Wau-Ke-Na ("forest-by-the-water") is the largest of Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy's preserves and includes forests, fields, streams, ponds, bluffs, and beaches. Please dress for hiking outdoors and bring drinking water. A guidebook, binoculars, long pants, and snacks are recommended. This unique nature center, located in southwestern Michigan's Berrien County, has eight miles of trails meandering through its 1000 acres. The trail system includes boardwalks, observation platforms, and an easily accessible barrier-free walkway. Boardwalks and observation platforms in the flood plain give you an up-close look at wetland wildlife and habitats including wet forests, cattail marshes, shrub carrs, and even a unique alkaline wetland called a fen. On this this field trip we hope to see the federally listed Mitchell's Satyr Butterfly. Please dress for hiking outdoors and bring drinking water. The Phyllis Haehnle Memorial Sanctuary, a Michigan Audubon sanctuary, has an area of over 1,000 acres. The varied habitats include Beech and Oak Climax forests and native grasslands in the upland areas; among those in the wetland areas are a fen, a hardwood swamp, Eagle Lake and Mud Lake Marsh. Join us as we stay on Marquette Island in cabins and kayak the Les Cheneaux islands area. Learn about ourselves and the nature which surrounds us in the presence and support of other women. We will explore the learning available to us through the natural world, and our connection to it. Learn about yourself and how these natural experiences enrich our lives. The KNC and the Kalamazoo Area Wild Ones are happy to bring pollinator and garden specialists together from around the Midwest to talk to our community about the serious problems our pollinators face and the many actions you can take to help them. Our keynote is Heather Holm, author of the comprehensive book: Pollinators of Native Plants: Attract, Observe, and Identify Pollinators and Beneficial Insects with Native Plants, which can be purchased in the KNC giftshop. The morning will be filled with lectures from Heather, as well as local experts on pollinators. The afternoon sessions will be devoted to workshops, pre-registration required. Fee includes coffee (bring your own mug), lunch, and a reception. No refunds.
